Epiphyllum (/ˌɛpɨˈfɪləm/;^[2] "upon the leaf" in Greek) is a genus of 19 species of epiphytic plants in the cactus family (Cactaceae), native to Central America. Common names for these species include climbing cacti, orchid cacti and leaf cacti, though the latter also refers to the genus Pereskia.

 曇花屬的學名 Epiphyllum 是由 epi 和 phyllum 兩個希臘字根組成，意思就是葉片之上。

肉質植物；莖扁柱形，是和莖三角柱形量天尺區別的關鍵特徵；花大型，盛開時如碗口大，生於葉狀枝的邊緣，花重瓣、純白色，花瓣披針形，晚間開放，至次日早凋謝。

開花時長4～5個小時，因此用曇花一現來形容時間很短、稍縱即逝的機遇；常見華南地區的白色花形，開時芳香四溢，沁人心脾。因開花的時間短暫，並且在晚上才晚上開花，所以許多人認為能看到曇花綻放是奇蹟。由於在晚上開花，而且又很重的花香，所以又叫月下美人
